Take me home

This is a poem dedicated to all of the rescue dogs waiting in shelters for their forever home.

Take me home!

I have survived many a sleepless night, on the street, filled with fright.

I have been tossed away, my life then seemed so grey.

Take me home!

Give me a chance and I could be your one and only, never again would you be sad or lonely.

I’ll lick the tears from your face, and take you to a peaceful place.

Take me home!

I will be your faithful guide, and stay forever by your side.

I will be your light on the darkest night, a willing, welcoming, wonderful sight.

Take me home!

Unwanted and alone, disregarded by owners with hearts of stone.

I will heal you when you are sore, is there room for one more?

Take me home!

I’ll fall asleep lulled by your heartbeat, because without you I feel incomplete.

I will be your best friend, until my days come to an end.

Take me home!

When I gaze at you with my big brown eyes, a warm feeling will arise.

When the days are short and the nights are long, I know that in your arms is where I belong.

Take me home!

You can always count on me, together we shall always be.

Your whistle I will always heed, whenever and wherever you need.

Take me home!

I leave pawprints all over your heart, it is my wish that we will never part.

I am one with you and you are one with me, anybody can clearly see.

Take me home!

I will always be by your side, your call I will always abide.

Any time you are in doubt, you can give me a shout.

Take me home!

With your hand on my fur, we can do anything, that is for sure.

My nose in your palm, a wet lick on your face, we will walk together, pace by pace.

I will be forever loyal to you, knowing that you love me too.

If only, if only, if only you would take me home!
